Proud Sponsor of Snowflake Ball

On the 9th September 2023, I attended the annual Snowflake Ball, a gala event held to raise funds for the Wal-yan Respiratory Research Centre at Perth Children's Hospital. It was such an honour & privilege to attend this event, but especially as a donor/sponsor.
I donated two art pieces, to the combined value of $900, that were created during the recovery period following my own lung surgery in 2020. I was still living in Singapore at the time, at the height of the Covid pandemic, so closed borders meant I was unable to return home or receive support from friends & family during what was an extremely traumatic time. Feeling so home sick inspired me to paint two birds, a kookaburra & a cockatoo, not only to help me feel connected with the home I was deeply missing, but to help me emotionally heal from the experience of losing part of my right lung.
The pieces were part of the silent auction portion of the night & was so happy to hear they both sold. These pieces of work were such an important part of my own healing journey, so I truly hope that the funds raised from the sale, help the Wal-yan Respiratory Research team do the important work they do.
Note: Unfortunately there was a misprint on the bidding sheets, which had me listed as "Laura" Gibson - but I can assure you it was my work!
