About:

This artwork is part of my 'Confetti Bombshells' series & if you have ever been at a concert, or an event, where they have let off confetti cannons, that is what it's all about.

I experienced confetti canons for the first time watching Arcade Fire play Big Day Out in 2014 & it was the most joyful experience to stand in the downpour of confetti... like being in the rain but way more colourful & without all the sogginess.

I have flashes of many memories walking out of a concert, a party, a street parade, even a nightclub & looking down at the aftermath on the ground & thinking to myself 'wow, what a beautiful mess.' I guess my strange little brain found it inspiring enough to file it away somewhere & I alchemized those memories into... well, this!

Whilst at a first glance the concept of these pieces is quite basic, the composition & the laydown of 100s of layers (by hand) is very measured to create depth, movement & points of interest. Each piece is bursting with colour & if you feel a little intimidated by that, I assure you, the exciting thing about this work is that the abundance of colour actually makes these pieces so much more versatile. They will compliment almost any room, while the overall canvas blends into a kind of relaxing, visual, white noise - sparkly white noise!

As I often like to do, I have added a final embellishment layer, mixing gemstones, rhinestones, pearls, foil cuts & glitters. This brings another layer of versatility to the work, taking it from day to night, because it is still such a pleasure to view even when the light is dim. Another beautiful feature of the embellishment is the satisfaction of viewing the artwork at surface level (from the side) as the embellished layer creates a 3D effect like bubbles coming out of water.

Without a doubt this has been a really exciting collection to create & I hope it brings you all the positive energy & joy of standing in a confetti canon - but without the clean up!
