About the Artwork:
Title: The Infinite Idle
Original Artwork Completed: 2023
If you're new here, you might not know that we relocated to Singapore in 2018 where we lived for 3.5 years. Unfortunately we didn't have a budget that stretched to modern living quarters & as such we found ourselves inhabiting dated apartments with depresso-décor during our time there.
My boys happened to be in one of the absolute dreariest rooms in our apartment & in order to try and make it feel more like 'home', as much as you can in a rented apartment, I agreed to paint them both a picture by request.
Clearly influenced by the 100's of rainbow hearts I was painting at the time, both boys requested rainbow coloured animals. I finished one of the paintings (a giraffe) just a few months shy of us relocating back to Australia & subsequently, never did get around to the other one.
Fast forward 18+ months later, back in Australia, my youngest started inquiring as to exactly when I'd get around to painting him a picture & submitted a new request of a rainbow koala.
I got started on the request pretty quickly & then promptly found myself in a 3 month creative slump where I just couldn't bring myself to pick up a brush & paint.
My son, he is only 6 as this story plays out, he is so, so patient. Over two years since the original request & a further 6 months in the making from start to finish of this piece while mummy dragged herself through the dreaded creative block with a big heaping tonne of 'mum-guilt' eating her up inside. I really hope it was worth the wait?
