About:

Being an artist has the potential for creating a lot of waste, so I'm always looking for creative ways to reduce, re-use & recycle the "waste" I produce in my studio. 

When I say “waste” I am not just referring to rubbish.  In my studio, waste comes in the form of the excess paint left on my palette at the end of the day, scraps of cardstock I’ve cut off artwork edges, abandoned artworks I lost my way with & even the pieces of paper towel/card I write notes, test markers & wipe my brushes off on, as I work in my studio.  

It was as I was looking at one of those very messy pieces of card taped to my desk, which I had been testing markers & wiping my brushes on for months, that I came to appreciate that it had become its own abstract art piece that looked too good to waste.

My main decider in the items I produce in my art practice is whether or not it is something I find useful. So, as I was pondering what to make of this beautiful mess, the idea of bookmarks popped into my head.  As an avid reader myself, I often have a few books on the go at once & so I do love me a good bookmark (or 10).
